Dear COA Holders,

We hope that you all had a blessed holiday season and have experienced a prosperous New Year thus far!  As we transition into the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, and close the end of the calendar year, please take a moment to read this letter regarding the upcoming reporting due date of February 14, 2024.

All COA holders must submit their semi-annual reports by this date, unless you are on quarterly reporting.  Unfortunately, we are still working the kinks out of the new website, however, there is a manual form on the website to fill out and submit.  Remember, detailed policy listings and/or trust activity statements should be submitted with those reports.

COA holders on quarterly reporting must submit the fourth quarter of 2023 (October 1st through December 31st) report by this date.  Remember, detailed policy listings and/or trust activity statements should be submitted with those reports, as well as current Letter of Credit or Surety Bond certificate.  Again, this form can be found on the website while we work to make online reporting available.

Reports must be submitted on time to avoid late penalties.  Any reports received after February 14, 2024, will be subject to a $50/day fine for every day it is late.  This does not apply to the postmarked date.  Reports must be in our office by February 14, 2024, to avoid the penalty.

Financial statements are NOT due with the semi-annual or quarterly reports. However, those COA holders funding with a Letter of Credit or Surety Bond should make sure that the beneficiary of said letters and bonds be updated to reflect the Alabama Board of Funeral Services.  Copies of those changes should be submitted with the report.

Thank you for your continued patience with the board while we work to get online reporting back going through our website.  When completed, reporting will become quicker, easier, and more cost-effective.  You will also be able to pay fees/fines online.  Aside from reporting, the new system will be able to allow us to conduct miniature preneed examinations while out inspecting funeral homes throughout the year, which is why it is extremely important to make sure the system is working exactly the way we want it to and make sure there are no kinks in the workflow.

Should you have any questions regarding the quarterly or semi-annual reporting, please contact the board office for assistance.

Sincerely,
Charles M. Perine
