Online Preneed Renewal Due July 1, 2017

Preneed renewal applications and fees must be submitted online by Saturday, July 1st or the Certificate Holder will be in default and subject to a fine of up to $50 per day. In accordance with ALA. CODE § 27-17A-11(h). “The certificate holder’s authority to sell preneed contracts shall cease while the default continues.”       

Please Note that the Department of Insurance – Preneed Division will close Friday, June 30, 2017, at 5 pm  and not reopen until Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 8 am. For your convenience the online system is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, until September 1st, regardless of office hours.  

Beginning July 2nd, at 12:00 am, regardless of office closings, any Certificate Holder who has NOT successfully submitted an online renewal application, a $50 per day fine will automatically begin accruing on its invoice.

 

No renewal application will be approved until all open administrative items have been resolved. This includes: pending administrative complaints; failure to comply with requirements imposed in settlement or letter agreements, consent orders, or final adjudicated orders in an administrative complaint proceedings or court actions; unresolved preneed examination findings; failure to pay or comply with payment arrangements for examination invoices and/or amounts otherwise imposed, including applicable, deposits in a merchandise and services trust and/or cemetery endowment care trust; and failure to submit required reports.

Fines will appear on the renewal invoice and must be paid in order to complete the renewal process. Failure to renew before September 1, 2017, will result in the expiration of your Certificate of Authority and any related Branch Registrations and Preneed Sales Agent Registrations will terminate.

 

***Financial Statements are not required to be submitted unless specifically requested. Certificate Holders will submit the following key financial numbers from their most recent year-end financial statements (combined with its branches) in the “Financial Information” section of the online Certificate of Authority renewal application:

  • Pre-law Preneed Receivables
  • Post-law Preneed Receivables
  • Goodwill
  • Total Assets
  • Pre-law Deferred Revenue
  • Post-law Deferred Revenue
  • Total Liabilities
  • Equity/Surplus
  • Net Income

ANY PRENEED SALES WITHOUT A VALID CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORITY OR PRENEED SALES AGENT REGISTRATION, WHETHER IN DEFAULT OR EXPIRED, IS A VIOLATION OF ALA. CODE § 27-17A-22(a)(1) AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR(S) TO CRIMINAL ACTION.
